Google enters social marketing world

Posted on: Friday, August 05, 2011

A new company has joined the social media fray, and it happens to be the one of the world wide web's biggest kingpins: Google.

The new service is called Google Plus, and because so many agents use social media for prospecting and to generate insurance leads, ProducersWeb decided to give users a tutorial.

For instance, ProducersWeb says one of the most important things agents will encounter on the site is a feature called circles. This is what gives users the ability to manage their account and form connections, grouping them accordingly, such as friends, business contacts and family.

Another point of reference is something called Sparks, which serves as users' own personal feed for information relating to their points of interest.

The source says another feature relevant to agents is a "hangout," which can be used to conduct video conversations.

Other notable features of Google Plus that ProducersWeb cites include applications for frequent cell phone users and a location beacon, of sorts.

Whether Google Plus survives is for its users to decide. Until then, it serves as another outlet for agents to exploit in their insurance lead hunting.
