More than half of consumers perplexed by health insurance plans

Even though health insurance has been in the headlines on a regular basis for several years, many consumers say they find the topic confusing, particularly when it comes to picking the best plan for them.

According to a recent poll conducted by health insurer Aetna, more than half of the 1,000 respondents surveyed said they found several aspects relating to choosing a health plan confusing. Some of the most complicated aspects included determining the total costs of a plan, the differences between a PPO and HMO, which providers were in network and whether referrals were needed.

Aetna is one of several insurance providers that have attempted to make the health insurance purchase process more clear, providing websites that are geared specifically for those who may be unfamiliar with what health benefit options.

This study serves as a reminder for insurance agents to make sure their insurance leads fully comprehend their options. Some may say they understand when they're actually still very confused.
